The national leadership score declined to 61/100 (-2) in the Apr-Jun 2024 quarter, now at its lowest point in 3 years. The drivers of leadership, integrity, contribution, and competence also hit their lowest point, as cost of living, crime, and climate action dominated public discourse.

  • The government sector performed poorest, hitting a new low of 54/100 (-2 quarter on quarter), followed by the private sector at 59 (-1), not-for-profit sector at 63 (-2), and public sector at 72 (-1).
  • The biggest decline occurred amongst supermarkets, with a leadership score of 53 (-8). State governments also fell sharply to 51 (-6), as did public postal services at 69 (-5), professional sporting clubs and associations on 62 (-5), religious institutions at 50 (-5), and telcos on 61 (-4).
  • There were some good news stories though. The federal government improved to 53 (+2), emergency services hit a new high at 83 (+4), and mining companies had a score of 65 (+4).
