The national leadership score remained at 63/100 in July to September 2023, as economic pressures (costing of living, housing affordability etc.), The Voice referendum, and climate action became key leadership issues in Australia.

  • Competence (67/100), integrity (63/100), and contribution (65/100) scores remained unchanged, with leadership perceptions looking bleak across many specific sectors and institutions.
  • The public sector performed strongest again at 71 but continued its downward trend. The not-for-profit sector continued to improve from 65 to 66. The private and government sectors continued to decline, with scores of 61 and 57, respectively.
  • The federal government declined substantially this quarter, from 59 to 54 (-5). Retail fell strongly, from 69 to 63 (-6), as did mining companies, from 65 to 60 (-5), and leisure and gaming, from 46 to 39 (-7). Improvements were observed from telco's, increasing from 62 to 66 (+4).
